Following on from last years productive and galvanising event – we are proud to announce our plans for a 2017 Housing Summit, taking place this November 25th 2017, at Hamilton House, London.

The Homes for All housing summit on 25 November will bring together the growing housing movement, with bookings already from across Britain.
Generation Rent (private renters), Hazards campaign and homeless groups are among groups taking part.

As the political party conference season comes to a close – there is now a greater recognition from political leaders that Britains housing crisis demands immediate action.

Come to our next organising meeting this Saturday 7th October, 11am at:

Unite offices, 128 Theobalds Rd, London WC1X 8TN.

And help us finalise plans for the Housing Summit we are planning on the 25th November.

Our fringe meeting at the Labour Party Conference drew 100+ delegates and visitors, many determined to build local housing campaigns.

At the conference a resolution was passed calling for more council house building, replacement of any council homes demolished, and a residents’ ballot before any major redevelopment plans. Jeremy Corbyn restated these aims and plans for rent controls, in his high-profile conference speech, and a review of housing building, planning, regulation and management.

We are launching an Autumn Statement for Homes 2017 to press for action to invest in council homes, regulate housing associations, cut private rents, and Axe The Housing Act.

The Grenfell Inquiry opens on Thursday September 14th and we have been asked to take part in two solidarity events:

14 September:  9.30am – Grenfell solidarity protest on first day of Inquiry, at Connaught Rooms 61-65 Great Queen St, London WC2B 5DA

And at 6.30pm – join the Silent March with survivors, families and supporters, meet at Notting Hill Methodist Centre, 240 Lancaster Road, W11 4AH

At Labour’s 2017 conference, Axe The Housing Act alongside the TUC and Defend Council Housing will host a meeting with speakers including Ken Loach, Steve Turner and Emma Dent Coad.

Also at the conference, a ‘contemporary motion’ on housing calls on councils not to demolish estates.  Ask any delegates to prioritise this motion for debate at conference.

Now is the time to sharpen the weakened Government’s focus on housing.  We want commitment to control rents, secure homes for all, and repeal the Housing and Planning Act.

We are widening the campaign, to  demand action on safety, security, against demolitions and mergers and for the homes we need, as well as scrapping the Housing Act 2016.  All are welcome – please pass an invite to other campaigners, and help create a linked up housing movement.

The terrible Grenfell fire and the failed response of local and national Government, is now exposing the lethal mix of cuts, neglect and refusal to listen to residents, across Britain.

In hundreds of meetings, people are attempting to hold landlords to account and force them to act. Several councils have committed to fit sprinklers in all tower blocks: these include Birmingham, Sheffield, Croydon, Southampton.

We are co-sponsoring a London-wide meeting on Grenfell and fire safety, with Matt Wrack of Fire Brigades union, Kevin Courtney of Teachers union, tenant groups and campaigners.

This meeting will be held on July 12th, 6.30 pm at the Somers Town Community Centre, 150 Ossulston Street, London NW1 1EE.

Please invite local residents and others concerned to secure justice for Grenfell and safety in our homes, schools and hospitals.
